It’s time for another crochet washcloth project! This simple and beginner-friendly design uses basic crochet stitches, making it perfect for crocheters of all levels.
I love making washcloths because they’re a fantastic way to use up scrap yarn from previous projects. Plus, they’re quick to work up!
Washcloths are also a great way to practice new stitches and techniques while creating something practical for your home or yourself.

About the Stitch
I’m not entirely sure what to call this stitch – some people know it as the Single Crochet V-Stitch, while others call it the Modified Spider Stitch.
It’s pretty similar to the Spider Stitch, but in the Spider Stitch, there’s only one chain between the single crochets, whereas this version uses two chains. That small change makes it much easier to insert the hook into the right space and creates a slightly less dense fabric.
It is also similar to the classic V-Stitch, but instead of using double crochets, this version uses single crochets.
Difficulty
Easy and beginner-friendly! This pattern uses basic crochet stitches arranged in a specific order, making it easy for beginners to follow along.

Crochet Washcloth Pattern Notes
- Adjust the size of your washcloth by chaining any multiple of 3. This means you need to chain a number that is divisible by 3, such as 27, 30, 33, and so on.
- Work as many rows as you need to get to your desired size (square).
Crochet Winter Wonder Washcloth Instructions
Ch 33 or any multiple of 3 for your desired size.
Row 1: SC in the third Ch from hook, Ch 2, SC in the same Ch. *Sk 2 Ch, and work another set of (SC, Ch2, SC) in the next Ch. Repeat from * across the row.
Row 2: Ch 1, turn. Work (SC, Ch2, SC) in the first Ch2-space and every Ch2-space across the row.
Repeat row 2 until you have a square shape.
For the half-and-half washcloth, switch colours once you’ve crocheted half the length of your washcloth. For example, if your washcloth measures 8 inches in length, work until you reach 4 inches, then switch to the other colour to ensure both halves are equal in size.
Border
With a contrasting colour, Ch 1, turn. Work the sets of (SC, Ch2, SC) around the washcloth.
On the sides, work into the top stitches of each little curve, as indicated by the arrows in the photo below.
At the bottom, work into the same chains used in the first row. In the end, slip stitch to first St, fasten off and weave in all ends. Done!
