Double Waffle Crochet Baby Blanket

I want to share my latest creation – this little Double Waffle Crochet Baby Blanket. It turned out so soft and squishy with a beautiful spongy texture.

I used the Double Waffle Crochet stitch, and I love the texture it has created. I didn’t make any border around the blanket, as I like it as it is. But I can imagine a simple border in white or even the same colour would look pretty cute, too 🙂 If you’re planning to make a border and looking for some ideas, take a look at the beautiful blanket borders on Daisy Farm Crafts.

This pattern can be used to make a bigger blanket or a throw, and I’m tempted to make one using a chunkier yarn. I can imagine it’ll be pretty warm and cozy in winter.

The blanket works up pretty quickly, with double crochets as the main stitch. What I like about the double waffle stitch is that it’s reversible (the traditional waffle crochet stitch is not reversible and has a different texture on the other side), and it looks exactly the same on both sides.

About Double Waffle Crochet Stitch

If you know how to crochet the Waffle Stitch, then you’ll probably be able to figure out how the Double Waffle Stitch works. It’s basically alternating two double crochet stitches followed by two front-post double crochet stitches, which is very easy to remember.

This is a reversible waffle crochet stitch, so the blanket looks the same on both sides and is reversible.

Pattern Notes

The blanket is worked in back and forth rows.

The Ch2 at the beginning of a row counts as the first stitch.

You can adjust the size of your blanket by chaining more/or less (multiple of 4 plus 4) and working more/fewer rows.

Baby Blanket Written Instructions

Ch 108 or a multiple of 4 plus 4 (multiple of 4 means any number that can be divided by 4, then add extra four chains to that number.)

Row 1: DC in 4th Ch from hook and every Ch to end of row. (106)

Row 2: Ch 2, turn. *DC in next two Sts, FPDC in next two Sts*, repeat from * to end of row. Work a DC in the very last St. (106)

Row 3 – desired size: repeat row 2.

Fasten off and weave in all ends. Done!

For rows 3-on, should the dc be “stacked” and the FPDC be stacked, or do the dc get stacked on the FPDC?

thx

Hi Megan, the DC should be stacked on top of FPDC and vice versa! 🙂

very beautiful and color choice is great.
thank you for super easy directions, can’t wait to start!
i will be making quite a few for friends.

Thank you, Jen! Enjoy making them, I’m sure they’ll turn out beautiful! 🙂

Is there a way to make the little square bigger? Instead of tiny little squares, make them a little bigger? I hope you can understand what I mean

Hi Patricia, I think I know what you mean, but I haven’t tried making them bigger yet and haven’t really seen anyone do it. But, it would be fun to experiment and try! 😊

Lisa Lathamsays:

Hi is made using Uk stitches or USA stitches

US stitches, it’s indicated next to Abbreviations. 😊
