This is probably one of the easiest crochet headbands you can make – it’s quick, simple, and, if I do say so myself, looks pretty great too!

Whether you’re a beginner looking for an easy first project or just want something fast and fun to crochet, this headband is an excellent choice.

Plus, it’s one of those projects that looks neat and stylish without being complicated. You can easily customize the size and color to suit your style or make thoughtful handmade gifts for friends and family.

I made the Hiker’s Headband for my husband, and he’s been wearing it pretty much every day since! It serves two purposes – it keeps his ears warm and holds his hair back (and he has a lot of hair!). It’s perfect for hiking or working on outdoor projects.

About the Yarn

I used Lionbrands Two of Wands Color Theory, worsted weight #4 yarn in Nutmeg and Tourmaline (100% Acrylic, 246yds/225m). I really enjoyed working with it, it’s super soft and great for making warm, cozy pieces.

Here are some other projects I’ve made using this yarn: Hillside Men’s Cowl, Alpine Cowl, Houndstooth Crochet Headband, Herringbone Crochet Fingerless Gloves.

About the Stitch

I used the Moss stitch for this pattern, which is beginner-friendly and super easy to learn. Moss stitch uses only two basic stitches (single crochet and chain stitch) worked in a simple repeat to create a beautiful texture.

Moss stitch is one of my favorite stitches for men’s items like scarves, headbands, and other accessories. I love it because it’s simple, easy to crochet, and creates such a great texture. If you’re a fan of this stitch too, be sure to check out this crochet men’s scarf or the Fireside Cowl!

Crochet Men’s Headband Pattern Notes

  • The Headband is worked flat and then sewn together when it reaches the desired length (circumference).
  • You can adjust the width by chaining more or less, any even number.
  • You can adjust the headband’s length by working more or fewer rows.
  • I used a 4mm hook to make the headband slightly denser, as the moss stitch will stretch in length.
  • When checking the fit, make sure to make your headband at approx. 2-3 inches shorter than your head circumference – this way, it will stretch for a comfortable fit.

Crochet Easy Men’s Headband Instructions

Chain 20 for the width of the headband (or any even number plus approx. one inch extra for the turning chain).

Row 1: SC in the 4th Ch from hook, *Ch 1, sk 1 Ch, SC in next Ch, repeat from * across the row, ending with a SC in the last St.

Row 2: Ch 2 and turn. SC into the first Ch-1 space (the space between the SC stitches from the previous row), Ch 1, skip 1 stitch, SC in the next Ch-1 space. Repeat from * across the row. The last SC should be worked into the space between the turning chain (Ch 2) and the SC from the previous row (if you need See step-by-step photos, see Moss Stitch tutorial).

Repeat row 2 until you have approximately 18-19 inches (46-50 cm). The headband, when worked in this direction using moss stitch, will stretch in length, so when checking the size, give it a gentle stretch and try it on to make sure the headband isn’t too large.

Once you’re happy with the length, simply sew the sides together and weave in any loose ends. Your crochet headband is ready to wear! I hope you enjoy making (and wearing) this easy headband pattern!
