Coffee Cloth – Free Crochet Pattern

I made this kitchen/coffee station cloth as a fun and practical addition to my coffee routine, but honestly, it’s great for anything!

The simple, textured stitch works up quickly, making it perfect as a dishcloth or an all-purpose kitchen cloth.

There’s just something about handmade touches that make everyday tasks feel a little more special!

The pattern and stitch are easy to learn, making it great if you’re just starting out! It uses basic crochet stitches to create a fun, textured look and works up quickly – I finished this cloth in just a couple of hours. Feel free to choose your favorite contrasting colors to make it your own!

What Yarn to Use

I used 100% cotton yarn in light worsted #3 (8ply/DK), you can use any type or brand you prefer.

Crochet Coffee Cloth Pattern

Skill: Easy.

Cloth Dimensions

8″ x 8″ (20cm x 20cm)

Gauge

8 stitches x 7 rows = 2″ (in Lemon Peel stitch)

Abbreviations (US Terms)

Ch = chain

St = stitch

Sl St = slip stitch

SC = single crochet

DC = Double crochet

MC = main colour

CC = contrasting colour

Stitch used: Lemon Peel Stitch (alternating SC and DC as described in row 3)

Materials

  • Yarn: Keep Sake 100% organic cotton, light worsted weight yarn #3/DK/8ply in colour Atmosphere. For the stripes: Flinders 100% cotton
  • Yardage: Atmosphere (main colour) approx. 65yds/60m, Natural (contrasting colour) approx. 22yds/20m.
  • Any 100% cotton, light worsted weight yarn #3/DK/8ply yarn in your favourite contrasting colours.
  • Crochet hook 4mm (G)
  • Scissors, yarn needle, three markers.

Crochet Pattern Notes

  • To change the size, chain any odd number for the width.
  • Chain 1 at the beginning of a row is a turning chain and does not count as a stitch.
  • When switching colors, always change in the last stitch of the row so you can work with the new color in the next row.

Instructions

Starting with CC, Ch 33 or any odd number.

Row 1: SC in second Ch from hook and across the row (32 in total).

Row 2: Ch 1, turn. SC in first St and across (32 in every row). Change to MC in the last stitch.

Row 3: Ch1, turn. SC in first St, *DC in next St, SC in next St, repeat from * across the row, ending with a DC in last St.

Row 4-10: repeat row 3 (you should have 8 rows in MC), then change to CC.

Tip: Since this stitch can make it tricky to count the rows, use a marker every two rows to keep track. Once you get the hang of it, you may not need the markers anymore!

Row 11-12: CC, repeat row 2.

Row 13-20: MC, repeat row 3.

Row 21-22: CC, repeat row 2.

Rows 23-30: MC, repeat row 3.

Row 31-32: CC, repeat row 2.

Note: The two rows in CC are always worked in SC only. The 8 rows in MC are worked in Lemon Peel St.

Colour changes: 8 rows in MC, two rows in CC (single crochet only, see row 2). See photo below.

When switching colours, fasten off the contrasting colour, but you can carry up the main color from the previous rows.

Make three blocks of MC and end with two rows in CC as shown in the photo above.

Weave in all ends, making sure to keep them within the same colour section. And that’s it, your coffee cloth is ready!
