This pattern features the paired single crochet stitch, creating a textured and slightly bumpy fabric perfect for scrubbing dishes and removing dirt and grime. This dishcloth might become your go-to for various kitchen tasks, and it’s not only functional but also looks lovely.

Follow my step-by-step instructions below, and you’ll have your own crochet dishcloth in no time. It’s perfect as a practical gift or a useful addition to your own kitchen decor!

About the Stitch

The paired single crochet stitch creates a unique, bumpy texture that looks different compared to the regular single crochet. See the photo below for comparison. This stitch forms a slightly thicker and sturdier fabric, making it perfect for dishcloths. The extra texture is great for scrubbing dishes, and it will last you a long time! πŸ™‚

Paired single crochet (PSC) is a technique where you work two single crochets similarly to how you do decreases or single crochet 2 together (SC2tog). But the difference here is that we work into the same stitch twice. This results in a thicker, sturdier and more durable dishcloth.

To make a paired single crochet, start by inserting your hook into the same stitch as the previous one, yarn over, and pull up a loop. You should have two loops on your hook. Then, insert the hook into the next stitch, yarn over, and pull up another loop, you’ll have three loops on the hook. Finally, yarn over and pull through all three loops to complete the paired single crochet.

Pattern Notes

  • This dishcloth can be made in any size. Chain any number of chains to make your dishcloth bigger or smaller, and adjust the number of rows until you have a square.
  • You can use a slightly larger size hook (5.5mm) for the foundation chain to make the bottom edge less tight.

Written Instructions

Ch 30

Row 1: Insert your hook into the second Ch from the hook and work a SC. Next, *insert the hook into the same Ch where you made the SC, yarn over, and pull up a loop. Then, insert your hook into the next Ch and pull up another loop. Yarn over and pull through all three loops on the hook. You just made one paired single crochet stitch. To make the next stitch, repeat from * across the row. You should have 29 stitches.

Tip: To count the stitches, look at the top of the stitches. Each “V” shape represents one stitch.

Row 2: Ch 1 and turn. Work a SC into the first St. Then, just like in the previous row, insert your hook into the same St and pull up a loop. Insert your hook into the next St and pull up another loop. Yarn over and pull through all three loops on the hook. Continue working paired single crochets across the row. (29 sts)

Row 3 – 30: repeat row 2.

When you are happy with the size, fasten off and weave in all ends. Done! πŸ™‚
